Birmingham Half Marathon

Mitesh and Kalpesh Parekh, from Preston and London, raised over £1,000 for HLH by taking part in this year’s Birmingham Half Marathon

After hearing about HLH for the first time on the BBC Radio 1 Nihal’s show they said

“We were left inspired by the work of HLH and felt it was a worthy cause to raise money for. We were determined to help make a difference.”

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the boys. Having trained for about 6 months Mitesh got injured 2 weeks before the run! He said

“Even though I didn’t get to run which was a disappointment we raised a lot of money and we were overwhelmed by donations we received from our friends, colleagues and family. Once I have fully recovered I am planning to do a half marathon again, and I will again try and raise money for HLH.”

Kalpesh managed to beat his target time and said

“I ran the Great North Run in 2011 and got a time of 1 hour 55 minutes so my target was to beat that and try going for 1 hour 45 minutes. I managed to beat that time by 2 minutes. The pain was definitely worth it!”

Dr Sanjiv Nichani has said of their achievement

“It’s a truly great achievement from Mitesh and Kalpesh, and it’s wonderful to see that HLH is reaching out to a national audience of supporters. Their efforts alone has saved the lives of two young children”.
