Healing Little Hearts is a registered charity set up to send specialist medical teams from the UK to Western  India to perform life saving heart operations on babies and children.

Currently, children with heart problems in Mumbai and indeed throughout India face 3 possible scenarios:

1.They get NO surgical treatment at all and die.

2.They get operated upon in some hospitals in Mumbai and elsewhere in India that do not have the expertise either to operate on them or indeed to look after then following the surgery, resulting in very high mortality rates of 40-50% for the more complicated operations. The mortality rate for similar procedures in the UK is  only 4-5%.

3.Some children get lucky and are referred to other centres in India like Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and Cochin. These centres  are already overwhelmed with referrals and therefore it can literally be pot luck if a child will get an operation that will save his or her life.

Healing Little Hearts was formed to begin to address this unacceptable and tragic situation.

These specialist teams are made up of children’s doctors and nurses from around the world. From the UK specialist teams come from the University Hospitals of Leicester, Alder Hey Childrens Hospital Liverpool Childrens Hospital.

Members of the team give up their time to go to Indian in support of this worthy cause without any financial renumeration.

The teams will travel to India every month to perform life saving, complex heart procedures at the Holy Family Hospital, Mumbai.
